Are You Dead?

"Life and love inspire me. I think reinventing yourself is vital to your survival as an artist and a human being. I know it’s cliché to say about me at this point, but it’s true. My curiosity definitely is the driving force in my life and career. When you stop learning, engaging and growing, you’re dead."

Happy Leap Year!

One more day until it's March!
March signifies:
spring is on the horizon
 march madness
my momma's birthday (i love you so!)
It also marks a very exciting trip long in the works to see the land down under. A trip that I have been counting for many moons. A trip that makes each passing day exciting as I research things all the different things to experience. A trip that exposes me to a new culture. That is best gift I could ever give myself. Everyone needs a different perspective on life and how the world works. Everyone. I honestly feel that I shine a brighter version of myself when I am traveling. Independent. Self Assured. Savvy. Confident. Brave. Curious. Strong. Alive. and Nomadic. I crave being nomadic and for the past 4 years I have been put in LA.
I'm thinking there is going to be a change around the corner.
Soon.
Sydney and the Whitsunday Islands are going to be such a beautiful experience and to share that with my best friend is really a gift. I have been in need of a out of the country trip for some time now. So in two weeks I will be off on some grand adventure. It will be life changing. I just know it.

True Story.

"I have learned to listen to my heart.  I have learned that if you never make room for better things and better ways to be, if you never clear out the things in your life that stand in the way of your happiness, then you are not aligning your universe to allow for amazing things.   In this life, you don’t find yourself.  You create yourself.  And the same goes for love: you don’t find love, you create a road for love to travel and wait for it to come."

when did i become a sap about love? just now. :)

Yes and Yes.

“I may still not know what I want to be when I grow up, but I do know that someday I want to live in a house filled with my books and travel souvenirs. And the walls that aren’t covered in bookshelves will be covered with photos of my family and friends. When I leave the house I will be going to a job I love, and I’ll return to a person I love. So, that’s the dream I’m working on.”

So Thankful

As November comes to a close I can truly say that I am thankful for everyone and everything that has gotten me here in my life today but I don't even think the word "thankful" is even enough. I feel so lucky in life with having a healthy family, wonderful job and friends. Blessed.

November Highlights

Turning 27 and feeling so <3'd by everyone
Thanksgiving with my older sister in Seattle, Washington
A.B. coming down from Canada to meet up in Seattle
Pacific Northwest's Ballet The Nutcracker
Buying myself the most amazing gift ever (check out my bucket list!)
Signing up for a course at UCLA!
Signing up to volunteer at the boys and girls club

gobble gobble day

27th bday brunch at 26 beaches

pretty seattle

This month was a month of action for me. I signed up for things that I had been wanting to do for ages - things out of my comfort zone. I have taken this month to reevaluate my life and do things for me, to better myself in the ways of school, travel and volunteering. This to me is what life is all about, learning and growing, and taking yourself out the comfort zone. The past few years I had been really comfortable with my life in LA that I didn't see the need for changes. That characteristic is not me at all. I don't even know how I got to be so set in my ways. So this year of being 27 will be all about change. One day at a time. Who knows where I will end up when I am 28.

Put yourself out there, take risks.

oh make some big jumps, big jumps you afraid to break some bones
come on make some big jumps, big jumps life is your saulte
you hold your head up, your head up high like you think i do

DST

DaylightsSavingsTime.

I love and hate dislike it at the same time.

I love that I wake up before 6am now which allows me to go for a nice little run before work
I hate dislike that when I am leaving work the sun has already set
I love that in LA it marks the change of seasons
I hate dislike that it makes me go to bed early, and by early I mean 9pm
I love how it makes one special day have an extra hour

So I guess fall is officially here in Los Angeles. Changes. Embrace 'em.

Truth.

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."

Inspiration

As I've gotten older more and more people around me are living for themselves. By that I mean creating their own company/world based on their creativity. I realized I had never imagined myself owning my own business or creating a business that was all my own idea. Not to say that I am not ambitious or have great ideas I just never thought about it.

Recently, that has changed.

I have had a few close friends of mine decide to create their own business from scratch. It is completely inspiring. To be so bold as to come up with the idea, create the website and market it all is so amazing. You have to be one strong person. They have taken the plunge by quiting their jobs (and in this economy, SCARY), maxed out their cc's and/or had investors believe in them. They are ready to lose it all just so they can have it all. Talk about taking risks. Something I think everyone needs to do in their life. Why play it safe?

These people are taking a topic/object/dream that they are so passionate about and creating something for the world to enjoy. This is their legacy. They have envisioned something grand and profitable focused around that said topic. While so many people are talkers or dreamers they are doers. They want to do things their way. Watching them talk about it with that twinkle in their eyes makes me want to do something like that in my life. Who knows in what form, but to be absolutely passionate about a job you created for yourself is worth the risk. Take a jump, or in this case the biggest leap ever in your life and do it. Take a chance, at least one.

Truths.

A very famous restaurant in Austin that puts up daily quirky sayings. Just bleedin' some orange.

amen.

“When you're 25-ish, you're old enough to know what kind of music you love, regardless of what your last boyfriend or roommate always used to play. You know how to walk in heels, how to tie a necktie, how to give a good toast at a wedding and how to make something for dinner. You don't have to think much about skin care, home ownership or your retirement plan. Your life can look a lot of different ways when you're 25: single, dating, engaged, married. You are working in dream jobs, pay-the-bills jobs and downright horrible jobs. You are young enough to believe that anything is possible, and you are old enough to make that belief a reality.” (puts life in perspective doesn't it?)

she has a few years left to learn..

Giddy!

Hi y'all,

What am I doing? How do I do this? I have toyed around with the idea of starting a blog or perhaps a scrapbook (I know so 2000's) since the big move to Los Angeles from Austin,Texas (by the way of Lawrence, KS). I wish I had done it sooner. Anyhoo. Here I am.

Recently my life has felt a bit overwhelming. I have found myself caring about insignificant things and being tad bit self consumed instead of enjoying and focusing on the simple beauties that God has given the world. I have realized that I must cherish every second I spend with family and friends and let them know how much I appreciate them. Something I feel I don't do enough. I am incredibly grateful for everyone who has taught me a lesson, given me a hug, wiped away my tears and helped me when I've fallen flat on my ass (figuratively and literally) without judging me. I am who I am because of y'all.  Gracias!

This year has been incredibly hard but so wonderful at the same time. I've loved with my whole heart and had it shattered. I picked myself up and said at least I experienced something that made me feel alive. I have learned a lot about myself (the good and the bad) and who I want to be. I have realized that I need to stick up for myself more, not listen to others but my own instincts and to stop caring about what others think.  I'm a work in progress, but a happy one. Thank you 26. Perhaps you are my lucky #?  I will be 27 next month and if this year was such a pivotal year I can't even imagine what next year will hold. I hope to fill this little blog full of enlightening little gifts of wisdom, pictures and music for my readers as well as my adventures along the way. (Readers!?! pshhhh) I will share what inspires and motivates me in this wondrous world. I hope you all enjoy the little glitters of life that I am going to share.
